Who’s Who ‘V’

Virgo Terry, Church Leader, Founder of Newfrontiers Churches 1940 Brought up in Brighton, and converted in his teenage years he became part of the British New Church Movement in the 1950’s and 60’s. In the 1990s he began the Newfrontiers model of churches. Charismatic, Calvinist and conservative, in terms of values and ethics, it became the largest group of new churches begun in this period. By 2005 they numbered about 35,000 members. Virgo’s emphasis is both on the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the use of spiritual gifts but also on expository preaching in the Reformed tradition. He also sees a role for the apostle in the modern church as going between churches with an authoritative role of teaching and leadership.  He is the author of fourteen books.
